Agence France-Presse English Wire: SAARBRUECKEN, Germany, Sept 27 (AFP) - A woman among 13 people charged in the rape and murder of a five-year-old boy in a case that has shocked Germany, said on Monday she had seen him being killed.

The woman, named as Erika K., who is charged with complicity in serious sexual abuse, told the court she had seen the boy named Pascal raped by a man in a back room of a restaurant in this western German city while a woman suffocated the boy by holding a cushion over his face to stifle the screaming.

The man said to have committed the rape, Martin R., was convicted in this case last year. Erika K. said the woman holding the cushion was Andrea M., who is charged with sexual abuse and murder.

Erika K. explained that when she went into the room after the rape, "you would have thought that the boy was dead".

She said she had moved the boy's legs and he seemed lifeless.

Erika K. said the owner of the bar and the chief defendant, Christa W., said she had "to get rid" of the body in a quarry a few miles away over the border in France.

The boy's body was rolled in a blanket, then put into a dustbin bag and taken out of the cafe, she told the court.

However authorities could not find the corpse when they searched the quarry near the French village of Forbach, about 10 kilometres (six miles) away from the German border. Investigators are unsure exactly how and when Pascal died.

Erika K., the 51-year-old cleaning woman, said she does not recall anyone else abusing the boy on the day he died, which contradicts statements she gave to police.

Erika K. and Andrea M. are the only two of the 13 defendants scheduled to give evidence in one of the biggest pedophile trials in recent German history.

The prosecution says the boy was raped by four men in September 2001. Each of them had paid Christa W. 20 marks (10 euros) and the bar owner filmed and photographed the rape, the court has heard. [Where are the people who claim that snuff films don't exist? - Donna]
