Indonesian orangutan shaved, chained and prostituted

I'm outraged and yet not surprised. What I wonder is if pro-prostitution advocates might suggest prostituting apes might help ward off their extinction similar to how they suggest poverty-stricken women can ward off the extinction of their individual lives by submitting to men's sexual violations. "Better a whore than dead" seems to be their motto for women, why not for endangered apes too?

The photo of the shaved and chained ape that accompanies this interview is up there with the freakiest shit I've ever seen, and I've seen some seriously freaky shit, my friends. -sam

Conclusive Proof - That There Is No God and Humans Are Essentially Evil

Meet Pony. She is an orangutan from a small village in Borneo, where they cut down the rain forest to render the palm oil that gets sold abroad and made into lip salve, ice cream, chocolates, and cheese crackers.

Vice: So tell us about Pony.

Michelle Desilets [Director of the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation]: Pony is an orangutan from a prostitute village in Borneo. We found her chained to a wall, lying on a mattress. She had been shaved all over her body.

I want to cry.

If a man walked near her, she would turn herself around, present herself, and start gyrating and going through the motions. She was being used as a sex slave. She was probably about six or seven years old when we rescued her, but she had been held captive by a madam for a long time. The madam refused to give up the animal because everyone loved Pony and she was a big part of their income. They also thought Pony was lucky, as she would pick winning lottery numbers.

Did the clients realize that they were in fact getting an orangutan?

Oh yeah, they would come in especially for it. You could choose a human if you preferred, but it was a novelty for many of the men to have sex with an orangutan. They shaved her every other day, which meant that her skin had all these pimples and was very irritated. The mosquitoes would get to her very badly and the bites would become septic and be very infected, as she would scratch them constantly. They would put rings and necklaces on her. She was absolutely hideous to look at.

How did you get her away from there?

It took us over a year to rescue her, because every time we went in with forest police and local officers we would be overpowered by the villagers, who simply would not give her up. They would threaten us with guns and knives with poison on them. In the end it took 35 policemen armed with AK-47s and other weaponry going in there and demanding that they hand over Pony. It was filmed by a local television crew and in the background of the film when we are unchaining Pony you can hear the madam crying hysterically, screaming, “They are taking my baby, you can’t do this!” There is no law enforcement in Indonesia so these people didn’t face any sentence or anything for what they had done.

Witchy blogged about this; she said

It took them over a year to rescue that poor creature. I commend them for doing that but I can’t help thinking ‘that’s a year longer than they spent trying to rescue a human female from the same kind of life’.

There’s something more horrific in an orangutan having to live like that than a human woman having to live like that? Oh, I forgot. Human women choose to live the life an orangutan needs to be rescued from. But, as always, there’s something missing from the analysis - the actions of men; their culpability.

Some may say “oh, but they’re Indonesian men - they’re different”. Some may say “my clients/audience/lover/whatever, are/is good to me”. Whatever gets you through, I guess, but the bottom line is… men hate you. Whatever your nationality, profession/occupation, status, sexuality, ethnicity, age, level of ability - if fact anything about you that deems you female - counts for nothing in their world. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Your humanity is neither relevant or important.

In their world you are the same as an orangutan. How does that make you feel?

Me? I’m fucking angry.

Very true. I'm not sure which part I am struck by more - that men pay to have sex with an ape, or that the ape is rescued before the women.

And yes, they do hate us and I'm fucking angry too. I'm also fucking angry that not enough of us women are fucking angry.

"And yes, they do hate us and I'm fucking angry too. I'm also fucking angry that not enough of us women are fucking angry."

Word. As much as I want males to get involved , and I really do, the males are no where to be seen, I can see a male not wanting feminism(well, not really, but i see their/out resistance ecause males like the cushy situaruon that bolsters male supremacy. But Women feel it and experience it everyday.
