I think that with first deliveries it's typical for the vagina to tear, and the apparent consensus is it's better to let it tear than to cut.

Some reasons for episiotomies is to make delivery faster, and to prevent the vagina from stretching. On the other hand, it heals faster if allowed to tear.


I can't imagine the gall of a doctor asking the man involved how tight he wants "his" vagina. Sutures hurt, more sutures hurt more.

They don't like you asking too many questions, or wondering "why this or that" you know - you must learn to accept without question, it's the patriarchal way dearies.

it kind of depends on the doctor you choose. i had a midwife delivery, which was of-so-natural and nearly med-free. i had to threaten her to get the narcotic she promised me.
